 Great toaster, but doesn't last June 24, 2010

We got this toaster for our wedding in January. We used it daily to toast bagels for breakfast. I was very happy with the settings & temperature on the toaster and even recommended it to others...until it died one month later. It popped & made a spark, then would not work anymore. I had to return it and get a different brand of toaster that could handle daily use.

I have used this toaster less than 3 months and it no longer funtions properly. It only gets used three or four times a week so it is not abused. The handle no longer locks down so it is useless. I see other reviews that have the same complaint. Think twice about this one even though Black & Decker has had a good reputation in the past.

I have owned and gone through 5 (five!) toasters during last 10 years (different brands, different models)... they all broke down very fast, most of them just toasting on one side, unevenly, losing the ability to stay locked down, etc...
even though each model was the cheap, under-20-bucks-unit, I would think with all the planned obsolescence, the toaster should have more of a life-span than an average of two years... oh well...
This time I decided to spend a little more to get better longevity, but still was not willing to pay $50 on a simple toaster. Finally I decided for this one (Black & Decker T2707S 2-Slice Stainless-Steel Toaster) and have been quite happy with it so far.
I wanted to give it a fairly long test trial, before writing a review, and after about 5 months of daily use, I feel like I can pretty confidently express my satisfaction with the performance.
It does take little longer that I was used to in the past to toast the bread... however, both sides are still holding strong and heating up evenly, and that's all I ever asked of ANY toast. There is also the defrost option, which I appreciate and on top of that, the stainless steel design is quite attractive, and actually looks good on the counter top.
I am very happy with both the looks and the performance, would buy it again (AND hope I won't need to! :)

Ordered this toaster despite some bad reviews. Well guess what, they were right!
First time to use it and the slots won't stay down. Pops back up every time.
