4 out of 5 stars Can be a pain, but knowing what works makes a difference.   July 26, 2010

I bought this when we went on a diet. I wanted something to help get rid of the fat, as the actual name of the product is the "Lean Mean Grilling Machine" with the emphasis on lean.

The first thing to address is the size. This is not a family sized machine. This is really only good for one or two people. I find it amusing to see complaints on this in reviews, when the size is clearly stated in the title. Think of it this way: 1 medium T-bone steak; 2 medium chicken breast; 2 pork chops, etc.

The second thing is a serious problem that others have also complained about. It does not work well - at all - with high fatty foods nor foods with a high water content. Many reviewers have touched on the subject that the grease runs out, instead of into (what they term) "the drip tray." However it is important to note that so long as you use lean cuts of meat, you won't experience this issue.

Problematic examples:

* Any ground meat whatsoever.
* Pork chops, without the fat well-trimmed off.
* Sausages with casings removed.
* Tomatoes and other high-water content vegetables.

You get the idea.

I have successfully grilled chicken breasts, fish fillets and steaks without any problems at all.

A couple of additional tips that I wish someone had shared with me before using (both are seriously duh tips, but I'm sometimes - okay most of the time - guilty of trying to do things quickly instead of properly):

* They recommend spraying oil on the grill plates before use. This seems obvious, but I learned - after having trouble removing spray build-up along the outside of the grill - to spray the plates before putting them ON the actual grilling machine.
* Actually use the grill times in the manual because unlike most guides, they are remarkably on track. I tend to just let things cook and then get paranoid that it's not done enough so I let it cook even more, which leads to jerky like substances. ;) If you follow the guide, they really do come out very tender. Don't lose it or if you do, download the pdf (just Google it).

All in all, I love it. For things that are higher in fat, I use the good 'ol fashioned broiler (with a tad of water in the bottom to make for easier cleaning).

1 out of 5 stars LOUSY!   June 20, 2010

We bought this less than 6 months ago and my wife just threw in the trash. Consistently leaks grease while cooking that comes out under the grill behind the grease pan. This model is an update of one we used for many year until the heating elements failed. Whatever they did in updating should not have been done. "If it ain't broke don't fix it!" I wish I could give it zero stars. I take the blame for not returning it before the deadline. A real piece of crap.

3 out of 5 stars Fast cooker, have to watch it, but good.   June 7, 2010

We have had 3 of the George Formans. The first one won our respect with it's great juicy flavor, but was too small. The second was the larger round one and was fabulous, but my roommate took it with her, then I purchased this one. It cooks very quickly - the results is on you. You can get it too dry or just right. But, removable plates are a MUST.

5 out of 5 stars Great product!   June 7, 2010

Bought this for my 87 year old dad. Was looking for something to make it simpler than getting out pans and using the stove. It's just perfect, he loves it. Real simple to use (there's no on/off or adjustments, you just plug it in..). Good size too, big enough for two/three servings. And cleaning couldn't be easier, pop out the top and bottom plates and clean in dishwasher. Very happy with this well made model.

1 out of 5 stars Cooks VERY slow and leaks   April 25, 2010

We have owned several George Foreman grills and loved them all. We use them a lot and when we wear them out, we buy a new one. This one does not compare. The grease leaks all over the counter and it cooks EXTREMELY slow. If you aren't hungry when you start cooking it might be ok...but you better like to clean! It does not have low-med-high as the other comment said - not sure which grill she has. It took an hour to cook a pound of bacon. It might be ok for chicken breasts but we will purchase one like the last one we had. George would be most unhappy with this one!
